Sydney Pollack said he considered only Nicole, Charlize and Naomi for The Interpreter. Naomi's losing the part didn't destroy the friendship. Nicole and Naomi are now 2 of the hottest few actresses in Hollywood (at least for the short term until one or both them starts to fade - which is likely to happen in the next couple years, as it does with every mid 30s actress). So they'll be fighting for parts. I'm sure they understand that. If one of them loses a role, at least the other gets it. They've been friends for 15 years. I have a feeling all this gossip about them competing is bullshit.

The rift isn't supposed to be about "The Interpreter" though, but about "I Don't Know How She Does It", which would be the first time Naomi was picked over Nicole, if true. But it looks pretty lame and low-budget (which is why they went with Naomi) so I don't see why Nicole should be that pissed off about it.

Naomi may not mind being passed over for Nicole. She has played second banana forever. Nicole may be a different story. Getting passed over for Naomi might not sit well with her. I could see Nicole being jealous. I don't think Nicole loves anyone but her career and nobody better mess with that.

Naomi got paid $15 MM for King Kong so I'd hardly call her low budget. And how much do you think Nicole got paid for Birthday Girl or Birth or that Lars Von Trier thing she did a year ago? Both of them can command big paychecks (by the standards of actresses, if not actors) but both will also do lower budget films if the project is right. And according to this link, Nicole is attached to I Don't Know How She Does It, not Naomi.

R6, I disagree that Watts has more talemt, she was good in MR but everything else she has overacted her way through, it is like someone screaming in her ear, "act, Naomi, act". When she has given as many performances as Kidman has in things like TDF, The Others, MR!, Birthday Girl, Dogville, Birth then I might be convinced. MD is one movie, in WDLHA, 21 Grams she was close to be overly melodramatic, in IHH she was unnoticeable, Le Divorce was the same thing. I will wait for her to do a character that calls for her to be subtle but for now, all she has got is MH.

Kidman fall out over a role, she just won the role of playing Diane Arbus and is off to Shanghai to work with Wong Kar Wai and now she and Lars Von Trier have started discussing her coming back to do the last part of the USA trilogy. Watts may be a new face but her last efforts have been pretty dismal, Assasination of Richard Nixon was all Sean Penn, The Ring 2 was crap and Ellie Parker was dismissed critically at Sundance. Kidman's The Interpreter just claimed the domestic and international BO. Kidman was linked to I don't Know How She Does It because the author wanted her for the role, she never signed or said anything about it as one of her upcoming projects infact she has never mentioned it. This rumour that there was a rift was started last year by the UK tabloids and now because they didn't talk at a premiere party which by the way Kidman left to go to the Time 100 Influential party has been reported again, I find it quite risible. The role is not a "dream" role by any means, I have read the book, it is just a good role. Kidman probably won't deny or verify the rumour because as annoying as it is, it is also quite insulting to start defending your friendship with people that have no clue.

i spend last minutes reading all these messages about the greatest actress of today and i had no idea you could tell that much about it. i dont know if they are lovers but they certainly love each other, in a wide sense of way. whether it is love or friendship does not matter, they love each other, you can see that by the way they look at each other, the way they talk about each other. plus its nice to see two stars knowing each other since high school and still being friends. i love them. they are great actresses

seriously, i miss new pics of them together on premiers etc. Naomi did attend The Interpretor premiere a couple of days ago, but no candids of them with one another... i don't wanna believe the rumors about them not being friends anymore. cause then Naomi wouldn't have attented at all. they also went to the Chanel gala the other day, but seperatly.

R162--I haven't seen Dogville, but The Stepford Wives and Birth were just awful. I can't figure out what she did them. At least Watts is in pretty decent movies (Ring 2 she had to do under R1 contract). Now Nicole is coming out with Bewitched..hmm.. The Interpreter is the only decent movies she's done in the past 3 years. Naomi has King Kong with Peter Jackson coming out in December, Stay with Ewan McGregor and will be doing The Painted Veil with Ed Norton in the fall. If anything, her taste is much better. I wonder if I Don't Know How She Does It will be made, it's been sitting on a shelf since 2003--Nicole has 6 movies already lined up (including "American Darlings" with J.Lo--another example of her less than stellar choices)--when would she even find the time for this?

I just gotta say, from looking at pics and reading interviews, it really seems like Nicole likes Naomi more, any real life similarities with Mulholland Dr notwithstanding. It's pretty obvious Naomi was using the Nicole connection for publicity (do they have the same publicist or something btw?). But now she grumbles about being asked about Nicole, in pretty much the same way she grumbles about being asked about Heath Ledger. See the interview at link.

nope they don't have the same publicist, i'm quite sure. although Nicole used to fix audition for Naomi early on. I can understand if Naomi get tired of always being asked about her aussie friend (in EVERY interview Nicole is being brought up) but hey that's a part of the business i guess. and that Playboy interview is great, it's very telling I think. And btw, no way she could ever (if being bi/gay) admit that she is, then automatically Tom is also and HE would never allow that to come out.

According to the NY Post, Naomi, Nicole, Sean Penn and a few other celebs were spotted at dinner together earlier this week. Plus, both Nicole and Naomi were at the CFDA awards at the Metropolitan Museum on Monday night. I think the rift is purely manufactured by the tabloids. By the way, Naomi did Assassination of Richard Nixon as a favor to Sean Penn. It was a tiny part and he begged her to do it after they had worked together in 21 Grams.
