I re-watched Mulholland Drive yesterday. Wow. I mean... WOW! (I just sounded like Tom Cruise. I'm sorry). But really, it's extraordinary. What did you guys think?

MD is one of my favorites ever, you do have to re-watch a couple of times to "get it".

When Mulholland Dr first came out I watched it quite a few times (I'm just a little bit obsessive about David Lynch going back to Twin Peaks). I had no idea who Naomi Watts was, and when I started reading some interviews and found out she was best friends with Nicole Kidman, it was like, oooh-kay, you have *got* to be freaking kidding me. I still won't believe it's just a coincidence.

Spoiler warning... Basically, the character Naomi plays in the movie (a struggling actress) has a gf (also an actress) that rises to success leaving her in the dust. And that's without getting into all the details of it... which I will... if you twist my arm. ;)

Aha, I get it. And you do know, that the whole lesbian theme was added _after_ Naomi was cast. I say HMMM.

More than that, it was added after the entire thing (the thing that was supposed to be a TV pilot) was already finished, and Lynch had gotten to know the actresses. And then there's the whole deal with the other woman marrying someone more established in the industry, getting ahead... heh!

When Diane(Naomi)sits at the table at the director's house in the ending ,don't wanna be a spoiler and tell more, she breaks my heart with her acting. She plays the part really well!

I think it was mentioned before in this thread, but it's really weird how similar the themes are in Mulholland Dr and Moulin Rogue (which came out the same year). (no conspiracy or anything, just a weird coincidence)

Agree 464. "Naomi Watts strolls with her two dogs, Chicken, right, and ,Bob,,Left, in Greenwich Village in New york,NY." They name the dogs but not the woman she's walking with?!

She used to have two dogs of her own though. This cocker spaniel I think, but I haven't seen her with it in quite a while so I guess something unfortunate most have happened.

From one of the recent updates from Gawker Stalker: "At the New Victory Theatre last night (7/10) for a performance of “Rain,” I sat across the aisle from Nicole Kidman. She came in at the last minute, and had two assistants sit on either side of her. She wasn’t fooling anyone, though; everybody still stared. She’s luminous, if a little thin. I loved the show so much I came back for today’s final performance and snagged a cancellation ticket. Turns out the woman who escaped Tom loved it as well; she was back, and this time she brought Naomi Watts, who was, unfortunately, not throwing one of the tantrums witnessed by other stalkers." Phew. Appearently they're still friends.

Yeah, so it seems. Or perhaps people just assume that since Nicole is the more famous one. I get kinda irritated at the gawker reporters sometimes, can't they add a little more info, make it more juicy. Like if Nicomi seemed to get along, laughed a lot, whatever basically!

r455 - Yeah, immediately after I saw it, I knew I had to watch it a few more times. I still don't quite "get it", I don't think. Or at least, I don't get ALL of it. I know what some parts are. I figure something new out every time I watch it. What a great movie.

r477, Oh definitely. I don't really fully get it either. But even Naomi said you're not supposed to, so that's good to hear, lol. But yeah, you always find something new watching it. Me likey a lot. Although some of my friends think I'm a looney for loving the movie, heh. But it's not the easiest movie to watch so I understand them.
