First of all, R812, Eyes Wide Shut featured Tom and Nicole having (unconvincing) sex with each other. So, um, no: we don't think their life is really like that. Kind of the whole point of the thread, really. As for fantasy -- the real fantasy lies in the insistence of hets that everyone prominent or beautiful or talented or admirable must be like them. Virtually no member of the movie-going public, fifty years ago, would have believed Rock Hudson was gay; seventy years ago the same was true of Garbo. People would have denied the truth just as vociferously then. They would have been wrong. What makes you think you're any less clueless than they were? Do you really believe that the only gay performers in Hollywood are the miniscule number that have come out publicly? To tell the truth, I don't have any firm opinion on Nicole or Naomi. But what's truly pathetic is the way some people react with hostility and something like panic at the mere suggestion that one or both might be gay. What, exactly, do you think you stand to lose by entertaining that possibility?

What exactly is a pillow queen? And, r816, you're joking , right? Mulholland Drive is a movie, Naomi Watts is an actress. She PLAYED a dyke, that doesn't mean she is one. (not to say that I'd be all disappointed if it turned out she was but one cannot assume who somebody is based on a character they play).

Why is it that whenever someone uses 'love affair' here everyone assumes it in the conventional sense? Nicole and Naomi could very well have been lovers, but their relationship could have been more darker and complex than most. After all, movie stars do tend to be full of themselves. Especially if they have no real talent and their careers were helped out by Tom Cruise.

I would fucking love if Monica Bellucci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michelle Pfeiffer etc. all were lesbians. But no, they aren't. You need to separate the apple from the oranges. What kills me about the "You wish!" posters is this: The reason most gay celebrities don't come out is because of the perception that it will damage their appeal to majority-straight audiences. Bigoted straights make sure everyone at least pretends to be straight because they just couldn't bear to see a movie with a fag or a dyke in it. The notion of a virtually all-het Hollywood is nothing but a heterosexual fantasy. Yet when Nicole's name comes up here they tell us we're the ones indulging fantasy and wishful thinking.
